✨ The components of high-quality lasers can be made of many different materials. Many high-power and solid-state lasers use ceramic materials to generate a laser beam and are seen as an alternative material to glass and single crystals, which are two other materials that are commonly used to generate a laser beam.

✨ Laser processing of ceramics is typically performed using a 10.6 or 9.3 micron CO2 laser with some ceramics also absorbing a 1.06 micron fiber laser wavelength. Laser cutting of thin film ceramic is also possible using a CO2 laser, producing a clean edge with little discoloration.They are hard, retain their hardness at high temperatures and have a relatively low reactivity with steel.
